Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any incentives available to insulate?

Homeowners may be eligible to receive rebates for making certain energy-efficient upgrades. BTU customers can view the BTU SmartHOME program to see if they qualify for rebates when adding insulation to their home. Also check out the U.S. Department of Energy’s Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency to see if you qualify for any energy rebates.

What R-values are recommended for Bryan/College Station homes?

The amount of insulation needed varies depending on location, building type and materials. We can provide more information about the recommended R-value once we discuss your project scope. For general direction, you can check out ENERGY STAR’s Recommended Home Insulation R-Values.

What is air sealing?

Air sealing means sealing the cracks, crevices, gaps and other areas in your home that may be leaking air. We typically seal these areas with caulk and foam products.

Why should I insulate my home?

There are many reasons to insulate homes in the Brazos Valley region, including improved comfort and energy efficiency. By acting as a “blanket” for a home, insulation helps to promote more consistent and comfortable indoor temperatures throughout the year. This means less wear and tear on HVAC equipment and lower heating and cooling costs. Insulation also can reduce noise transmission, helping to create an overall quieter space. Plus, when paired with proper air sealing, adding insulation can help protect a home from moisture and allergens and improve the overall indoor air quality.

Do you offer a warranty for insulation?

All warranties depend on the product being installed. One unique warranty that MVA Insulation customers can receive is the industry-exclusive CEE Limited Lifetime Warranty, thanks to our status as an Owens Corning® Certified Energy Expert® professional.

Here’s how it works: MVA’s customers can receive a limited lifetime warranty on the Owens Corning® PINK® FiberglasTM product that we install AND the workmanship. The CEE Limited Lifetime Warranty can be transferred from homeowner to homeowner for the life of the home. This means a homeowner can use it as a selling point if moving in the future.

After installation, we can help assist you with registering your warranty with Owens Corning. You will then receive a Proof of Warranty.

Note: See actual warranty for complete details, limitations, and requirements. For the lifetime of the home beginning from date of installation by an Owens Corning® Certified Energy Expert®.

What is R-Value?

The “R” in R-value stands for resistance to heat flow. The higher the R-value, the higher the level of resistance and the greater the insulating power. R-value requirements vary depending on climate and building type.

Can insulation help with noise control?

Yes. Airborne noises such as conversation, running appliances, electronic devices and household equipment carry and echo through walls, ceilings and floors. Good insulation can reduce such atmospheric interference, leaving rooms much quieter. According to ENERGY STAR, insulating your home can reduce the noise from outside your house as well as make it harder for pollen, dust, pests and insects to enter your home. It also can help improve humidity levels. So along with keeping the noise levels lower, adding insulation can also improve the overall comfort of your home.

What are the main types of insulation to choose from?

There are a few types of insulation materials to choose from, each having its own set of pros and cons. The insulation type you choose will depend on your needs.

    • Batt & Roll
    • Loosefill
    • Rigid Foam
    • Spray Foam

How much does insulation cost?

The cost of professional insulation installation in the Brazos Valley region depends on the insulation product type used and the amount needed, as well as other factors. We can provide a free assessment and estimate to determine how much your unique insulation project will cost.

Should I remove old insulation?

We recommend leaving the insulation removal to the professionals! The local building science experts at MVA Insulation can help gauge whether any current insulation needs to be removed before adding insulation. Insulation needs to be removed if there has been pest infestation, mold growth, moisture damage, or other issues that we can assess.

How long does it take to install insulation?

The length of insulation installation depends on the specifics of the project, such as whether removal is needed, which insulation product is being installed and if air sealing is also being applied. Once we complete an insulation assessment, we can give you a better idea of how long it will take to install the insulation. We will then schedule the insulation installation at a time that works best for you.
